Welcome to My Front Porch Hi, friend. I'm so glad you stopped by. My name is Marcia, and I'm the heart behind The Oklahoma Homestead Woman. This little corner of the internet is where I'll share the joys, lessons, and sometimes the challenges of building a simple homestead in Oklahoma. I'm not here to tell you that I know everything. I'm still learning every day. Some days things go exactly as planned, and other days the chickens remind me they have ideas of their own. Building an Outdoor Brooder: Our Chicks' First Big Move By The Oklahoma Homestead Woman There are days on the homestead when it feels like you work from sunrise to sunset and don't have much to show for it. Then there are days like today—days when you step back, look at what you've built, and realize another piece of the dream has come together. Today was one of those days. Our chicks and ducklings have officially graduated from their indoor brooder to a brand-new outdoor brooder that Chris built by hand. It all started with a pile of livestock panels, plywood, screws, chicken wire, and plenty of measuring, cutting, and fitting everything together. Nothing ever goes together quite as quickly as you hope, but that's part of homestead life. You figure it out one board at a time. Morning on the Homestead: The First Tomato of the Season 🍅 By Marcia – The Oklahoma Homestead Woman Good morning, friends! It's Saturday morning here in Oklahoma, and even though it's still early, the summer heat is already settling in. Around here, the mornings always seem to get away from me because there are plenty of chores waiting before I can sit down for a minute. Before the sun climbed too high, I'd already rotated the eggs in the incubator, fed and watered the baby chicks and ducklings, and taken our two little dogs outside. We have a sweet little Shih Tzu-Chihuahua mix and a miniature Australian Shepherd. I'm sure they'll have their own stories to tell as this homestead continues to grow. After the morning chores, I grabbed my Dr. Pepper, climbed into one of the tumblers I made that says, "Sometimes You Just Gotta Cluck It and Walk Away," and headed out to the garden.
