Homemade Meatballs

Homemade Meatballs: A Recipe That Always Brings Everyone to the Table

There are certain meals that instantly make a house feel like home, and homemade meatballs are one of those recipes for our family.

When the smell of onions, garlic, and seasoned meat starts filling the kitchen, everyone seems to wander in asking, "What's for supper?" That's usually a good sign I've picked the right meal.

I love this recipe because it's simple, made with pantry staples, and incredibly versatile. One night we enjoy them over spaghetti with homemade sauce, another night they're served over creamy mashed potatoes and brown gravy, and sometimes we pile them onto toasted buns with melted mozzarella for hearty meatball subs.

One of my favorite homestead habits is making a double batch. The extra meatballs freeze beautifully, so on busy days I already have the main part of supper waiting in the freezer. That's one less thing to worry about when life gets busy.

Chris especially enjoys these with mashed potatoes and gravy, while I can never resist a big bowl of spaghetti. Either way, there's rarely a leftover.

To me, that's what homestead cooking is all about. It isn't fancy ingredients or complicated techniques. It's taking simple foods from your pantry, cooking them with love, and gathering the people you care about around the table.

If you're just starting your cooking journey, don't be intimidated by homemade meatballs. Mix gently, don't overwork the meat, and let the seasonings do their job. Before long you'll have tender, juicy meatballs that taste like they've been made by Grandma for years.

So pull up a chair, pour yourself a glass of sweet tea—or in my case, a cold Dr Pepper—and enjoy one of our family's favorite comfort food recipes.
